ITV is the oldest commercial network in the UK and was originally launched in 1955. In Britain it is a popular TV broadcaster and it distributes some of the most popular programmes on TV.
ITV has recently made a five year commitment to promote mental wellness. The plan is to encourage people to improve their physical and mental health. The organisation has an admirable goal of getting 10 million people to take some sort of action to improve their mental and physical wellbeing by 2023.
In October 2020, ITV launched the first stage of this mental wellness campaign called ‘Britain Get Talking’. The aim of the campaign is to encourage people to talk to their family and friends as a simple measure to build mental wellness.
Can talking really help our mental health? Research says it can! By reaching out and talking to others, it improves our communities and makes it more acceptable for those with mental illnesses to ask for help. Being able to verbalise your thoughts and emotions can help you see them from a new perspective. Talking helps you work through your problems and you can find new ways of thinking about them. Many people say that talking to others about their worries feels like a weight has been lifted from them.
Well done ITV for taking this initiative. It is a good time to think about our mental health with World Mental Health Day occurring on Saturday 10th October 2020. We are sure many people will benefit from this campaign which will encourage all of us to open up more and talk about our feelings.
