Mental Health Awareness Week 2023 (MHAW) will take place from 15–21 May and the theme is ‘Anxiety’. MHAW provides an opportunity to understand the symptoms of anxiety and look at ways of tackling the issue.
Anxiety is a common mental health issue which many people suffer from. Feeling anxious before certain events is not unusual, for example before a public speaking engagement, when taking exams, or before a driving test. However, severe anxiety such as GAD (Generalised Anxiety Disorder) can interfere with day to day living and can make it difficult to function normally throughout the day.
There are a number of things you can do to help with anxiety such as breathing exercises, meditation and yoga, although severe anxiety may require medical attention.
